I’m only 5 hours in but I’ve found Genshin Impact to be the least aggressive Gotcha game I’ve played so far. Maybe that changes but I haven’t hit anything to make me want or need to change characters. I play in fear waiting for the gotcha foot to drop. I just wish the game was a subscription or anything other than random loot boxes to be monetized.
I think it’s within reason to call it gambling and gambling addiction. Outside of the US other governments have already made the connection. It’s an insidious business model, especially for a game like this that will appeal to gamers of all ages. You’ve brought up compelling points. I think this game will be a fascinating litmus test on quality and monetization practices for the F2P genre.
